The Workin' It Smoothie is all about using a few short cuts to keep your child eating healthy even on a super busy schedule! This one sneaks in sweet beets, carrots, and fruit, and is rounded out with Greek yogurt for protein and lasting energy.
We save lots of time by using pre-cleaned and pealed beets and carrots. Freezer Pop molds are great for storing any extra blended ingredients. You can freeze them and then pull one out for a popsicle, or pack one in your child's book bag and let the popsicle melt during the morning, creating a yummy smoothie to round out lunch, or provide a complete snack.
1 cup of frozen strawberries
1 cup frozen bananas
1 cup frozen pineapple
1/2 cup of carrots
3/4 cup 2% Greek yogurt
1/2-3/4 cup of water
- Stock up on frozen veggies when they go on sale
- Freeze unused blend in freezer pop bags
Beets contain BETAINE which helps your body decrease circulating levels of homocysteine. Elevated homocysteine is associated with depression, anxiety, increased inflammation, and weakened immune system. Betaine is great for all children, though especially those with MTHFR genetic mutations which can result in higher levels of circulating homocysteine.
